Ref: BB40234O

Straffe Hendrik is a Bitter Tripel Ale of 9% abv. The beer was originally from Bruges and brewed in Bruges by brewery De Halve Maan.

In 1981, Henri Maes and his daughter Véronique followed the demand of the mayor and created a strong blond beer for the inaugration of the statue of Sint-Arnoldus, the saint of all beer-brewers. However, the beer became so popular, that the demand fot the beer continued. It was given the name of Straffe Hendrik (Strong Hendrick), since it was a rich and strong beer.

Today, Straffe Hendrik is the last authentic Tripel Ale of Bruges.

Bockor Omer Traditional Blond 8° - 1/3L  New

Bockor Omer Traditional Blond 8° - 1/3L
Ref: BB40230Z

OMER. traditional blond is made of excellent summer malted barley from the Loire region (France) and pure water. During the brewing process sugars are liberated that will serve later to nourish the yeast. During the cooking process 3 varieties of hops from Germany, Slovenia and the Czech Republic are added to give the beer the specific aroma and bitterness.

After this cooking the top-fermenting yeast is added. The top fermentation process lasts 4-5 days at about 20°C. This yeast gives the beer its fruity and full-flavoured character.
After this main fermentation the beer is lagered for 3 weeks at 0°C.
Then the beer is filtered. Fresh yeast and sugar are again added to engine the refermentation after the beer is being bottled. This refermentation goes on for 14 days at a high temperature of 25°C. Here the sugars are transformed into alcohol and carbon dioxide. They give the beer the nice head while pooring. Finally the beer needs to rest for 3 weeks.

Pours light, rusty brown with a light pink head. Brett aromas predominate: horsey, leather, humus, with hints of cherry. Flavor complexity is immediately obvious with layers of funk, sorghum, cherries, and hints of wood. Medium body but very round on the tongue. A great beer but lambic fans should note: do not expect anything like Lindeman’s. This is closer to an Oud Bruin with the addition of cherries. Really an impressive brew.

Flip top bottle poured a nice fluffy white head with a golden color. There is a pear taste present followed by a bitter dry aftertaste. Not as hoppy as you would expect for a beer with this name, but very good regardless. Most Belgium beers that claim to be hoppy fall short for USA standards but there is definately a nice hop presence. The overwhelming carbonation added a bit of dryness as well.

Body is a slightly opaque, pale golden-orange color, crowned by a small ring of stark white head. Palate is a big dose of piney, citrusy hops, tempered by some sweet pale malt and a funky, slightly sweet yeast character. Finish is rather dry, with a lingering hoppy bitterness. Body is a little thin for a beer as strong as this one, but is still substantial enough for the amount of flavor.

Bush de Nuits 13° - 3/4L  New

Bush de Nuits 13° - 3/4L
Ref: BB30088

STOCK LIMITED!!!!!

The Bush de Nuits availability is forecast for August 2008.

The Bush de Nuits is basically a Bush de Noël which has been matured for more than 6 months in oak barrels previously used to hold the famous Nuits Saint Georges wine, instead of being traditionally kept in storage tanks. The beer is then filled in 75 cl bottles which are placed in a hot room during 3 weeks for a third fermentation. The final result is simply amazing, a highly flavoursome beer with wine-like aromas of red fruits giving it an harmonious balance in the mouth with sweetness, a hint of acidity and a relatively dry aftertaste in spite of the high density of the beer. This is great art

Waterloo Tripel is brewed on huge amounts of pilsener malt. Aromatic Saazer and Spalter hops are added, but to no further extent than to give it a bitterness equal to a pilsener which gives more room to the beer’s sweetness. The beer is fermented with Du Bocq’s original yeast strain which is responsible for the delicate, spicy expression. After maturation and filtration the beer has a secondary fermentation in the bottle which causes its slight cloudiness.

Struise Mikkeller -- the product of master brewing and friendship. Celebrate this sense of camaraderie by sharing this bottle with your good friends!
- Joe Tucker, RateBeer.com

Struise-Mikkeller is a distinguished 'Double IPA' of 130 IBU. This slightly hazy, amber-coloured ale pours a nice and creamy yellowish, off-white head. The aroma is packed with hops, fine spices, and the best of candi sugars. The taste is very generous, elegant, and, to our taste, perfectly in balance. On the palate you can notice touches of grapefruit, other hints of citrus, spices, smooth sugars, and tons of hops. This unique ale has a long, lingering aftertaste, and offers 'The Best of Two Worlds" -- for that is what Struise-Mikkeller is all about. While this ale was already anounced since April 2007, it took another six months of full lagering before bottling could take place.
