Cantillon Lou Pepe Kriek 5°-3/4L - V Ref: BB40271V The traditional Lambic is a beer whose spontaneous fermentation cannot be controlled entirely by the brewer. Due to the influence of many factors, the taste and the aromas of our product are different every time we brew. In a lambic brewery, every bottling (about 50 each season at the Cantillon brewery) results in a beer with its own more or less complex taste. These differences are one of the characteristics of the Gueuze, Kriek or Framboise. The lambic beers are blended in order to neutralize these differences and to be able to offer our customers a beer with a harmonious taste the whole season through. The Lou Pepe beers deviate from these principles. The Gueuze Lou Pepe is made with two years old lambic beers with a mellow taste, often coming from barrels in which only wine has been kept before. In July, the same kind of beer is used to make the Lou Pepe Kriek and Framboise. With these beers too, the fruits are soaked in barrels coming directly from Bordeaux. The second fermentation of these particular beers is not caused by the addition of young lambic but of a sweet liquor. The yeast will transform the sugar in carbon dioxide. All the lambic beers which are used, are brewed in the same season and the use of liquor instead of young lambic makes the taste of the fruit more intense. The Kriek and the Rosé de Gambrinus contain 200 g of fruits per liter on an average, while the Lou Pepe beers contain about 300 g. This fruity taste, combined with the wine flavour coming from the Bordeaux barrels, distinguishes these special beers from the other Cantillon products. The particular name of these beers comes from the south-west of France, a region the Cantillon family is very fond of. In this beautiful region, the grandfather is called Lou Pepe. Cantillon Cambrinus Rosé 5° - 37,5cl -V Ref: BB28177 The process to make this beer is identical to the one to make Kriek. When young, the Rosé de Gambrinus will still present its full fruity taste. Later on, the lambic taste will become dominant at the expense of the fruit taste. Very livly reddish orange and cloudy. Unbelievable fresh rasberries dominates the nose but takes a back seat to the Cantillon sourness. Lemon grass, barnyard, some kind of wood, and a ton of carbonation. Less complex than the Gran Cru. Fruityness and some vague sourness is present, but not unpleasant. The beer has some metallic notes. Light bitter in the end. Campus 7°-1/3L -V Ref: BB20298 Amber to bottle brown in color. Sweet aroma, slightly spicy flavor. Caramel flavor is evident and hops are also up front. Thin bodied with hoppy ending. Tastes stronger than its advertised 7% as its alcohol bite lingers on. The head is full and strong and maintains its presence throughout. It has a fine lace that clings to the glass, and an amber/golden color. La Chouffe has a great combination of effervescence and creaminess that adds an interesting character to the mouth feel and the taste. The smell is earthy and fruity with a hint of apples and pears. Taste is a complex and somewhat subtle mix of sweet and bitter that makes it very drinkable and not overwhelming. I have had in on tap and from the bottle and have never been disappointed. Complex flavors, herbal - violets, rose, anise, distinct alcohol taste, particularly at fridge temps. Fruity, nice mouthfeel - Brasserie d'Achouffe is underrated - this is an excellent brewery. Finish tends toward sweet, syrupy, but a citrus note prevents it from being cloying. Had this chilled w. outside temps 85F, and it was refreshing and bracing - not just a winter beer, despite the label. Ciney 9°-1/4L Ref: BB20390 red-brown beer with a huge beige lazing head. The aroma is sweet caramel with notes of coriander. The flavor is of alcohol, caramel, and prunes with lemon-soda in the background and a dry finish. The mouthfeel is very soft. Nose is loaded with the aroma of over ripe fruit, plums comes to mind, sweet malt and a molasses like tone with some peat and smoke a complex nose to say the least, the start is sweet and thick with malt the top is middling in its feel. Finish is stinging in its acidity, the hops pertinent to the style and the 9 percent ABV, leaves a nice warming sensation in the tummy, quite dry aftertaste that sticks to the palate, a most enjoyable beer. Ciney Bruin 7°-1/4L Ref: BB20384 Poured a dark opaque brown colored beer with a nice head with better then average retention. Aroma is a mix of roasted malt and some slight notes of sweetness. Taste is very refreshing with again notes of roasted malt and candi sugar hitting my palate. I would have expected a bit more complexity from this beer to go from good to great. Corsaire 9.4°-1/3L -V Ref: BB20332 This beer is pasteurized when bottled, and undergoes no further treatment. It has a beautiful aroma with the fragrance of sugar cane. In its taste however there is a very manifest suggestion of burnt caramel, which is a result of the roasted malt used in its fabrication. It is particularly easy to digest, and can be drunk with obvious pleasure, even served cool. Very light and fluffy in texture, giving little hint of its strength. Clear golden appearance with a larger than average head. Yeasty, fruity aroma. Smooth, soft fruit taste with suggestions of peach, pear and apple. Near perfect carbonation (had on tap), with a slightly tart, long lasting finish. Corsendonk Pater 8°-1/3L Ref: BB20312 This beer has a huge head, so pour slowly (takes about 5 min.) The nose is typically brown ale and the flavor is chocolate (not a sour brown). The flavor is rather bland at refrigerator temperature, but becomes more full as the beer warms. Pair with Corsendonk Agnus (abbey pale ale) for a chocolate/ vanilla experience. Corsendonk Xmas 1/4L -V Ref: BB20321 On the palate this silky smooth ale is predominantly malty, with smoky, spicy and citrusy notes, and a long, lingering finish that is lightly tart and malty. Pours a dark brown amber color with some red hues. Pretty off-white head with very fine bubbles. Aroma is very spicy with malt and smoke in there as well. Flavor is caramel, dark fruit and spice. Body is a little thin but it had a nice long spicy finish. A good beer for sure. The nose is of butter, pear, yellow apple and clover honey with bready notes. Malty and fruity flavor up front with light atringency and tartness on the backside. Medium-bodied with a smooth, creamy mouthfeel and lively carbonation. Medium-length, chardonnay-like, dry finish. Very nice! Cuvée Hautes Voues 8°-1/4L Ref: BB20282 Brewed by the Silly Brewery. This beer is a artisanal beer. Dark for a Triple, but that is surely what this is. Unique and highly appetizing aroma of roasted almonds. Rich malt flavors hit first, followed by a balanced bit of aged hops, which is then lost in a nice taste of subdued alcohol.
